Energy sustainability or simply sustainability is much more than causing a low environmental impact to protect future generations. The reason why in a very distant past we had a low environmental impact was because the populations were tiny. More than 50% of people died before puberty.
With advances in science and technology, this situation has been overcome. But this progress has come at a cost. It's come at a cost to the environment as the only way to transform energy was by cutting down trees and burning coal. But now modern technologies are being used so that the growing demand for energy is not interrupted while the environment is preserved.
However, there is a missing dimension in this sustainability equation that is social and humanitarian: offering opportunities for everyone to have access to education and, consequently, being able to change a reality of disadvantage.
